Soft hand knitted shoulder ruffles

Description

Some pieces make you want to move a little lighter. This ruffle top is one of them: soft ruffles on the shoulders sway slightly with every step, and even with everyday jeans the look turns gentle and a little festive.

The fabric is smooth and light, and feels pleasant against the skin. The colour is a calm greyish blue with tiny light and deep blue flecks that you only notice up close. A decorative joining seam runs down the centre of the back. I leave it visible as part of the design. I attach the ruffles along the armhole lines of the already finished top, and they make a simple silhouette so charming. Every piece I make exists only once, so nobody else will have this top.

That feeling has a reason.

I knit the body of the top on a manual knitting machine, working crosswise, with the rows running across the width of the piece, which gives the knit its even horizontal lines. The ruffles, on the other hand, I knit by hand on needles. The yarn comes from Italian mills and is 75% cotton and 25% bourette silk. The cotton keeps the knit airy and helps it hold its shape. Bourette comes from short silk fibres, so it does not shine. Instead, it gives the knit a lively, slightly uneven texture and those little flecks that make the piece unmistakable.

Ruffle Top Size & Fit:

Size M has a length of 57 cm and a width of 42 cm when the top lies flat. To see how it will fit you, take a similar piece you already own, lay it flat and measure its length and width with a tape measure, as in the measuring photo. Then compare your numbers with mine, and you will know almost exactly how this top will fit.

Care:

You can wash this top by hand in cool water, or in the machine on the wool programme. The silk programme at 30 degrees also works. Gently press the water out in a towel and dry the top lying flat. You do not need to iron it.

The last two photos are an AI stylization that shows how you can combine the top with other pieces. The other photos, however, show the real texture and colour of the knit.
