The name that became a brand

Ineska is a name given to me by my teacher in 1983 in Berdyansk, Ukraine. He felt that my real name Inna did not reflect my true nature — my determination, depth and ability to see beauty where others do not. Thirty years later, when it was time to name my atelier, the choice was obvious.

How it all began

It all started with a basket for my cat. I simply wanted to knit something cozy for her — and unexpectedly discovered a whole new world. Ideas began to emerge on their own. That is how the INESKA brand was born.

Materials

I work exclusively with Italian and European yarn — merino wool, alpaca, silk, cashmere, bamboo, linen, cotton, nettle, hemp, baby yak and camel wool. These are the same materials used by the world’s leading fashion houses.

How I work

I work with two Brother knitting machines — one for heavy yarn, the other for lighter delicate pieces. This is not automation — every movement is made by my hands. The machine is a tool, like a pencil in the hand of an artist.

Some pieces I create entirely by hand — on needles or with a crochet hook. Just hands, material and idea.

By training I am a mechanical engineer. In the Netherlands my diploma was recognised as an engineering degree. Perhaps that is why I see the construction of a future piece before I even begin to knit it — every detail, every joint, every seam.

This is not a marketing trick — this is the reality of author’s production. One model, one yarn, one maker. When you buy an INESKA piece, you receive something that exists nowhere else in the world.

Behind every INESKA piece stands one person — from the first sketch to the last photograph.
